Elul 5769 It is taught that the name of the Hebrew month that immediately precedes the High Holy Day season, ELUL, is really an acronym for “Ani L’dodi, v’dodi li” or “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” This verse from the Song of Songs is most frequently used in Jewish weddings and it describes the commitment and love of a bride and groom. It is also a beautiful way to describe how we at Am Echod view our High Holiday worship. As our community gathers to offer thanks for the year that has past and ask God for blessings and life in the year ahead, we do so with open hearts and open souls. We all are well-aware that if we, as individuals, are to be written in the Book of Life for the year ahead, that we must commit ourselves to a year filled with love and commitment not only to our faith, but to our families and community, as well. We look forward to welcoming you as a part of our holy congregation and we pray that the year 5770 will be filled with life, blessing and peace. Shana Tova u’metukah – May we all have a sweet new year! Rabbi Dan Rabishaw
